Related Links Atlantic Coastal Action Program (ACAP) ACAP is a community based program initiated by Environment Canada in 1991. The program provides seed funding to its volunteer based partner sites so that they can carry out environmentally related work in their respective areas. Since 1991, the program has grown to a network of 16 sites throughout Atlantic Canada. Four of these sites are located in Newfoundland and Labrador, with the newest two being created in Labrador in 2006 - 2007. Gilbert Bay Marine Protected Area (MPA) The Gilbert Bay Marine Protected Area is located between William’s Harbour and Port Hope Simpson and is home to a genetically distinct population of Atlantic Cod (Gadus morhua). LSCAP has a contract with Fisheries and Oceans Canada to provide coordination services for the Gilbert Bay MPA and has a part-time coordinator for the project, working out of its office in Port Hope Simpson Southeastern Aurora Development Corporation (SADC) The Southeastern Aurora Development Corporation is the Regional Economic Development Board for Economic Zone 4 and was instrumental in organizing and establishing an ACAP site in the area. Prior to LSCAP becoming incorporated as a business entity, SADC also provided administration services for the organization. . |
