Black Tickle/ Domino
From July 12-August 20, 2010 two individuals from Black Tickle were hired on to do a beach survey/cleanup and biodiversity survey for their community. Terrence Morris and Adam Keefe were selected for the positions.
The project was designed to gather data from the beach in a precise and efficient manner. This took the shape of a two stage approach:
Stage 1, survey the beaches to document the litter present in the beaches and to record the biodiversity living in the beach zone.
Stage 2 took the form of the actual clean-up.
The reason why this approach was used was to identify any areas of the beach that were inaccessible as well as to identify any material that cannot be removed during the cleanup due to size, access or composition.
In total, Terrence and Adam surveyed the beaches in both Black Tickle and Domino. The communities were broken down into 10 zones (MAP) that contained various sub zones. They transported 12 truck loads of garbage to the dump and returned enough recyclable containers to collect $35.70 which was donated to a local charity. Their biodiversity survey identified various species that include both flora and fauna.
